Toren-Ch. 5The alarm woke her; its sound drowned out all else. Toren rolled out of the bed grabbing her belt with all her tools and sprinting out the door. Thankfully, no one had locked it. Toren repeatedly hit the button, impatient, but it was locked down. The whole place was going into lockdown. What the hell did that mean? “Sean! Jared! Fared! Miguel! Hey, anybody! Damn.” Toren made sure her gun was loaded and loosened her sword in its scabbard. They had all left probably on a mission that was going badly. She couldn’t go through the vents because every few floors had a separate system for security reasons; there was no way she cToren-Ch. 5
Toren-Ch. 4Her eyes fluttered open slowly adjusting to the bright light of the hospital ward. The Branch had its own facility for treatment of its people due to the usually strange injuries they suffered. It was well staffed, fully equipped and Toren hated it. There was an IV stuck in her arm, some clear liquid rhythmically dripping. Toren reached to pull it out and received a slap on her hand. The ward had a new doctor—an Asian woman with long black hair pulled back in a braid. “Only a trained doctor or nurse is allowed to take that out. Your previous doctors may have let get away with a lot, but I am not afraid of you. In this roToren-Ch. 4
Toren-Ch. 3The music made her whole body vibrate and the lights would give an epileptic seizures, but Toren didn’t care, she was having fun. A fake ID got her booze and at least two guys had already hit on her. This is what she had missed. The freedom to do what she pleased without the annoying Branch monitoring her every move.Toren-Ch. 3
She was there for three hours before they noticed she was missing. Toren spotted them before they spotted her. She immersed herself in the crowd expertly maneuvering to not interrupt the dancers and draw attention to herself while still making a quick escape. She was almost free when her feet froze to the ground. Migu
Toren-Ch. 2Rubbing her sore legs from landing on them, Toren looked around at the small metal room she had landed in. There was but a single door on the opposite wall, a chest on the side wall and a camera in the upper corner. There was obviously a speaker somewhere too because the Director was talking to her. “This will be your test, Ms. Night. It is quite simple. In the chest, you will find tools essential to your trade; using those tools, get through the door without tripping the alarm.” She could just see him sitting back in his chair, a snide smile plastered on his face. Fine, she would do his little test. The chest had a padlock onToren-Ch. 2
